POLICE yesterday picked up the body of a suspected Yango driver who is believed to have been murdered in Lusaka’s Chalala.
The driver has been identified as Michael Mulenga, 24, whose body was found about 10 metres away from a Toyota VVTI, bearing registration number ACV 6966.
Police deputy public relations manager Danny Mwale said in a statement that preliminary investigations indicate that he was strangled with a cloth as he had bruises on the neck while the cloth was found at the driver’s seat.
Officers also discovered that the car battery, two side mirrors, a radio cassette player and the radiator had been removed from the vehicle.
Mr Mwale said officers received a phone call from a concerned member of the public around 06:30 hours about the body of a dead man on Given Lubinda Road, near Two Sisters complex.
“Officers who rushed to the scene found the deceased lying about 10 metres away from a motor vehicle, a Toyota VVTI, beige in colour,” he said.
“The officers identified the deceased through a driving licence found at the scene bearing the name Michael Mulenga.
“He was found wearing a green T-shirt and grey trousers.
The driver’s licence was found together with two lady handbags.”
The body was taken to University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) for post-mortem
