A 26-YEAR-OLD woman of Kyawama Township in Mufumbwe, North-Western Province, has died after earth collapsed on her at a quarry pit.
North-Western Province police commanding officer Dennis Moola confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Betty Misheli.
Mr Moola said the incident happened yesterday around 11:00 hours at Farmers Training Centre (FTC) area.
He said the matter was reported to Mufumbwe Police Station by the victim’s mother, Martha Lupupa, 50.
“Brief facts of the matter are that around 08:00 hours today (yesterday), the deceased, in the company of Majory Lufupa and Atotwe Kapumba, went to Farmers Training College area where they were crushing stones.
“The deceased entered into the pit to dig the stones and it was at this point that the earth collapsed and trapped her,” Mr Moola said.
He said Ms Misheli’s colleagues attempted to rescue her by pulling her from the heap of soil but it was too late.
